In the Älänne area, a popular day trip destination for families is Rouskunhiekka, which features a swimming area suitable for children. The three-kilometre Kaivannonkierto nature trail, suitable also for younger hikers, begins near the sandy beach.
Facilities at the swimming area include changing cabins, an outdoor toilet and campfire site.
Note: Rouskunhiekka can only be reached by car via the Rautavaara–Varpaisjärvi road (no. 582), turning onto Joutenlahdentie. From the junction, it is 6 kilometres to the Rouskunhiekka swimming area.
