In the park in Rautavaara's village centre, you'll find a campfire shelter with an accessible fireplace, a great place to take a break and enjoy a snack. The shelter has a roof, but one side is fully open, which makes it a cross between a traditional Finnish kota hut and a lean-to shelter. It is easy to enter from the open side. The shelter is open to everyone, locals and visitors alike. You can light a fire and grill food at the fireplace, and sit either under the shelter or outside on the benches.
Location
The shelter is in a park in the village centre, right next to Rautavaara's market square.
You can drive all the way to the shelter and park in the car park about 10 metres away.
Accessibility
Route: The path from the car park to the shelter is level and made of compacted gravel, so it is suitable for wheelchairs. There are no steps along the way.
Entrance: One side of the shelter is fully open. There are no doors or thresholds.
Seating: The shelter has benches with backrests, and there are also benches outside next to the fireplace.
Toilet: There is no toilet at the shelter.
Lighting: The area is not lit, so bring your own light if you visit after dark.
Good to know
There is usually a small supply of firewood at the shelter.
Lighting a fire is not allowed when a forest fire warning is in effect.
Make sure the fire is completely out before you leave.
Please put any rubbish in the bin.
The shelter is a good place for a short break during a shopping trip or a drive, or for spending time with friends and family.
